Five Days Ago
I am catching up with the blog by sharing a wonderful day "out" with serious sightseeing.
I close with...
I do like "my" windows
But before we go......
Waking up in the morning this is the imge I see, the sunlight coming thru the antique curtain
--------
We drove to Pelekas on the opposite side of the island.
On the way we passed through woods and a personal "rest stop"
Trees are painted white to protect them from insect damage. But the furniture and painted rocks makes for a white scene
Corfu and the Greek Mainland to the right
The right red dot is Corfu city and left dot is Pelekas
The red dot is 2100 feet high The town is on the side of a steep mountain that faces west towards Italy.
Antonis and Maria walk into the tourist area on top ot the mountain
The steps to the viewing platform
A couple is looking towards Corfu, and I think she is saying, "Can you see the big ship?"
The bright ship seems as big as the Old Fort on the massive rock on the left.
We are looking about three plus miles to Corfu. It is eight miles from Corfu to the mainland in the distance,
On the way back.... The Cypress trees are wonderful
But it is not always beautiful
Getting back into the city we go to the ruins of the "Temple of Artemis"
You can see where they have dug down to uncover the bases of the temple columns.
Grass grows.... the reduced economy has forced the release of the people who maintain the site and guide viewers.
There are only two temples in all of Greece with this column pattern.
This temple and the Parthenon,
The frieze and other parts of the temple are housed in the Archeological Museum of Corfu
And the end of the excursion...

Thanks so much for sharing these beautiful scenes from Greece. There is beauty everywhere which you always recognize! I love your photos and they warm me as the air chills here in New England and the sun disappears!
